I need some tips on how to outline and crop images. For example, I have a picture that I want to just outline myself, and paste that on to a new image I'm making in photoshop.
I hope I explained that correctly. Any tips?

Magnetic lasso is a good tool for this, if you stand out from the background. Go around the perimeter of what you want to cut out until you return to where you started. Everything will blink. Then you can layer via copy and have it on it's own background.
The absolute best way to learn photoshop is to sit down and just play.
Have fun!

You need to learn how to use layers. Go to the help section of photoshop and follow the guided exercise on using layers.
If you just want to crop a picture ,select the rectangle tool on top left of your tool bar, outline what you want in your picture. Then select the crop tool.

Click on the lasso tool and then choose the polygonal lasso tool,
choose a start point and left click, then move around the shape left clicking frequently until you have gone right around the shape and double click at the end to complete. You should then see a dotted line appear that looks like marching ants, check that you are happy with the outline, if not click anywhere on the picture and the line will disappear and you can start again. When you are happy with your selection you can either click on edit%26gt;copy or use the keyboard shortcut ctrl+c and then go the picture you want to paste the cut-out into and click on edit%26gt;paste or use the keyboard shortcut ctrl+v
Use the Lasso tool (press L on the keyboard to find the right option). Right click on it, pick the polygonal lasso tool and use it to draw around yourself. When done, press ctrl+X (or go to edit-%26gt;cut) then create a new canvas and use ctrl+v (edit-%26gt;paste) to paste it.
